The Kaduna state Police command Tuesday said it has dismantled several kidnapping and criminal syndicates across the state, arresting 16 suspected kidnappers, three alleged gunrunners and six suspects linked to a counterfeit currency ring, while recovering 190 stolen solar inverters valued at N69 million.
The command also said it neutralised notorious kidnappers and recovered 10 firearms of different calibres, 170 counterfeit United States dollar notes, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen mobile phones, two plasma televisions, a stolen Toyota Sienna vehicle and 410 rustled cattle during coordinated operations carried out within the last two weeks.
Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, stated this while briefing journalists in Kaduna , saying the successes were recorded through intelligence-led operations conducted in collaboration with other security agencies.
“We have been working assiduously to ensure that Kaduna state is safer for all citizens. We work in conjunction with other security agencies, including the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilante groups and others,” he said.
The commissioner said police operatives dismantled a counterfeit currency syndicate after arresting a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Barau, who was allegedly caught attempting to exchange fake US dollar notes for naira.
He said investigations led to the arrest of Abdullahi Muhammad, Danbala Jibrin and other members of the syndicate, while 170 counterfeit dollar notes were recovered.
Muhammad also stated that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested three suspected gunrunners in Jos, Plateau state, identified as Luka Samuel, John Paul and Musa Elisha.
He said two locally fabricated pistols were recovered from the suspects, who confessed to supplying arms and ammunition to bandits operating in parts of the North-west.
In another operation, the police arrested Abdullahi Mohammed, popularly known as “Aala”, after months of surveillance.
