International Youth Day: First Lady Tinubu Urges Nigerian Youths To Embrace Education, Innovation

First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged young Nigerians to remain focused and hardworking, encouraging them to use education, innovation and entrepreneurship to achieve their aspirations and contribute to national development.

Tinubu made the call in a message commemorating International Youth Day 2026, marked globally on Wednesday, August 12, under the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

She said the theme highlighted the shared aspirations of young people despite differences in their backgrounds and circumstances. “Although young people come from diverse backgrounds and face different circumstances, they share common aspirations for quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities, and a more sustainable future.”

The First Lady encouraged Nigerian youths to remain committed to their personal development and use available opportunities to fulfil their potential. “I encourage our youth to remain focused and hardworking. Use education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship to pursue your dreams, fulfil your potential, and help build a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”

Tinubu also called for renewed efforts to create an environment where young people can develop their talents and contribute meaningfully to society. “As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to supporting and empowering young people by creating opportunities for them to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.”

She concluded by wishing Nigerian youths and young people around the world a happy International Youth Day 2026.
