Indonesia Deports Nigerian National Over Immigration Violation

A Nigerian national has been deported from Indonesia after immigration authorities determined that he could not provide a valid travel document or residence permit.

The deportation was carried out on Tuesday, August 18, through the immigration checkpoint at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, according to ANTARA News on Thursday.

The Nigerian was one of two foreign nationals deported by Indonesian authorities after being found to have breached the country’s immigration regulations.

Nigerian detained before deportation

Indonesian immigration authorities said the Nigerian could not produce a valid travel document or residence permit when requested by immigration officers.

The authorities said the violation fell under Article 71(b) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law.

Before he was removed from the country, the Nigerian was held at the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre in Riau Islands Province.

Officials said his identity was verified and the necessary travel documents were prepared before the deportation was completed.

I Wayan Putu Wiadnya, an official at the detention centre, described the deportation as an administrative measure taken against foreigners who breach Indonesia’s immigration rules.

He said authorities ensured the process was conducted professionally and safely.

Palestinian national also deported

The Nigerian was deported alongside a Palestinian national who had also violated Indonesian immigration regulations.

According to the detention centre, the Palestinian was removed from Indonesia after overstaying his permitted period of stay.

Authorities said the offence violated Article 78(3) of the Indonesian Immigration Law.

The Head of the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre, Erybowo Radyan Asmono, said the deportations formed part of Indonesia’s efforts to enforce its immigration laws and regulate the presence of foreign nationals in the country.

He stressed that foreigners visiting or residing in Indonesia are required to comply with the country’s immigration requirements.

Asmono also said immigration enforcement should be carried out firmly while maintaining professional and humanitarian standards.

The latest deportations underline the importance of ensuring that foreign nationals in Indonesia have valid travel and residency documents and comply with the conditions attached to their stay.
