A Hawaiian congressional candidate who got knocked out with a single punch after allegedly threatening a couple with a gun and pulling a knife on them was facing terrorism charges on Tuesday, according to reports.
Democrat Kirill Basin, who is running for Congress against incumbent Jill Tokuda, was arrested on suspicion of making terroristic threats after he got into a brawl in Maui, TMZ reported.
Witnesses told police a 61-year-old man asked Basin to turn down his music at Keawakapu Beach. Basin apparently didn’t take it well, and allegedly implied that he had a gun and would shoot the man’s wife.
Video shows Basin bragging that he would send the man to the hospital, then bizarrely shaking his hand seconds later. Things escalated fast when Basin told the man’s wife to go f— herself.
“In the end, Basin gets knocked out cold by a single punch thrown by the other man,” according to TMZ. “The politician drops like a sack of potatoes, and some guy starts slapping his face to wake him up while he’s unconscious on the ground.”
Cops said that Basin also pulled a knife and accidentally cut himself before allegedly tossing it in the ocean.
His bail was set at $1 million.
