Fox News host Mark Levin lashed out Saturday night at Americans opposed to the deeply unpopular U.S. war against Iran, singling out those displeased with soaring gas and food prices.
“I remember a time when America would say, ‘let’s go, let’s destroy that country, destroy that government!’ Now it’s a debate!” Levin said on his program, “Life, Liberty & Levin.”
“We don’t even have a draft. Would a draft even work with young people today, I wonder! Could we even fight World War II today? We’re whining about $1 of gasoline!”
Levin has been a staunch supporter of the U.S. war against Iran, and to such an extent that he broke with President Donald Trump amid the president’s attempts to secure a peace deal to end the war. He also previously invoked the fury of Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz, who accused Levin of working on behalf of Israel to influence the U.S.-Iran peace deal.
On Saturday, however, Levin’s concentration was squarely on Americans opposed to the U.S. war against Iran, which he said did not affect the “vast majority” of Americans.
“The vast majority of us are utterly unaffected personally, our families, by what’s going on in Iran with our troops,” Levin said.
The Fox News host then pivoted to mocking Americans opposed to the war: “It’s going on way too long, the price of gasoline and the price of a taco now is just crazy, this has gone on long enough,” he said in a mocking tone.
Levin then compared Iran war critics unfavorably to Americans who fought in World War II.
“Affordability wasn’t even an issue – victory was the issue!” he said. “Unity against an enemy was the issue. I don’t think they were debating the price of a burrito or taco.”
The average U.S. household has paid nearly $450 more on energy since the conflict began on Feb. 28, according to a Moody’s Analytics estimate, a hit that has cumulatively cost consumers nearly $60 billion and erased the benefit of this year’s larger tax refunds. Gasoline prices climbed above $4 a gallon for the first time in more than three years, while grocery costs have climbed too, with lettuce prices up more than 16% in May and ground beef up about 12% year-over-year.
