Former finance minister loses husband

Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has been thrown into mourning following the death of her husband, Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who died at the age of 62.

The family announced that the businessman passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in Lagos, but did not disclose the cause of his death.

His passing was announced in a statement signed by Reverend C. A. Adeosun on behalf of the family.

“It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and brother, Mr. Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who was called home to glory on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, in Lagos,” the statement read.

Describing the late Adeosun as a respected businessman and devoted Christian, the family said he lived a life defined by integrity, generosity, hard work and unwavering faith.

“He was a distinguished businessman and a devoted Christian whose integrity, generosity and steadfast faith touched the lives of all who knew him.

“He lived a life defined by hard work, service to God and an unwavering commitment to his family and community,” the statement added.

He is survived by his wife, former Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun; his children; and his siblings, including the founder of Kuramo Capital, Adewale (Wale) Adeosun, as well as other family members, friends and associates.

The family said it was taking solace in the Christian faith during this difficult time and requested privacy as it mourns.

It added that details of the funeral and Christian burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
