The Federal Government has deployed a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to address delays in processing pending, new and renewal applications by Nigerians living in the diaspora.
The team, dispatched by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on the directive of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will work with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK to fast-track passport enrolment and processing.
The intervention team is expected to arrive in the UK on Monday and will visit designated cities across the country to conduct passport enrolment and resolve outstanding applications.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the NIS said the exercise would cater for Nigerians with pending passport applications, those applying for new passports, and holders whose passports have less than one year before expiration and require renewal.
The service said applicants participating in the intervention are required to present their completed application forms alongside proof of payment during the enrolment process.
The NIS said it would release a detailed timetable for the exercise, including the cities to be visited, dates, venues, enrolment periods and other operational arrangements.
It urged applicants not to visit any location until the official schedule is announced, advising them to rely on updates from the Nigerian High Commission in the UK and other official communication channels.
The intervention is part of the government’s efforts to improve passport services for Nigerians abroad and reduce delays associated with passport enrolment, processing and renewal.
The NIS assured applicants that further details on the exercise would be communicated ahead of the commencement of the intervention.
