THE Federal Fire Service (FFS) in collaboration with the Kano State Fire Service, swiftly responded to a major fire outbreak and saved property worth about N4 billion at a commercial warehouse in Kano.
The Kano State Controller, Sadiq Usman-Mahmud, disclosed this in a statement issued by the service’s Public Relations Officer, Al-Hassan Kantin, on Wednesday in Kano.
It said: “We received a distress call in the early hours of Wednesday from a concerned member of the public, prompting a swift response from the Federal Secretariat Fire Station.
“Upon receiving the report, we immediately deployed a team of firefighters from both the Federal Secretariat Station and the Kano State Fire Service to the scene.
“The incident involved a warehouse used for storing household plastic products.
“On arrival, the fire had affected the warehouse, and we successfully quenched the affected section to prevent it from spreading to other parts.”
The statement noted that the fire outbreak was caused by a compressed cylinder.
“Due to the swift response and professionalism of the personnel, property worth N4 billion was saved while estimated losses stood at N1 billion,” it added.
It urged residents and business owners to ensure the safe handling and storage of compressed cylinders and other flammable materials, conduct regular fire safety inspections of their premises, and install appropriate fire protection equipment.
