The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested three more suspects linked to the kidnapping of the Dean of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University, Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor.
The latest arrests were made on Friday night after DSS operatives tracked the suspects to a local brothel along the Mararraban Akunza section of the Lafia–Makurdi Highway.
Professor Okunsebor was rescued by DSS operatives two days after he was abducted by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Mile Uku, a border community between Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Areas. Two suspects, including a woman, were arrested during the rescue operation.
A security source said the newly arrested suspects were attempting to flee when they were apprehended.
According to the source, “the suspects were identified as 25-year-old Yakubu Abubakar (aka Black/Starboy), of the Doemak tribe in Plateau State; 37-year-old Usman Abubakar Mairiga, and 27-year-old Sale Babauro Abubakar. Mairiga and Abubakar are Hausa and Fulani respectively, the source added.”
The source also disclosed that the suspects are in the custody of the DSS State Command for further investigations. The source added that their detention followed the issuance of a valid detention warrant by a magistrate’s court.
