National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has held another strategic meeting with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The meeting, held on Thursday, also had the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and other senior leaders of the party in attendance.
Dickson disclosed the meeting in a post on his official X account.
He said discussions centred on issues affecting the party and the country, while attention was also given to preparations for the unveiling of the NDC Campaign Council.
The former Bayelsa State governor said the latest meeting followed another engagement held two days earlier.
According to him, the leadership is now working towards finalising key decisions ahead of the commencement of the party’s campaign activities.
“Today, I met with our Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and the Running Mate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside the National Chairman and other party leaders, in continuation of our consultations and deliberations on issues concerning our Party and the nation.
“We met two days ago, and we met again today to further deliberate and finalise decisions, particularly as we prepare for the unveiling of our Party’s Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“At this critical stage, I call on all stakeholders, aspirants and members of our great Party to unite, close ranks and work collectively for the success of our candidates at all levels, from top to bottom,” Dickson wrote.
The meeting comes at an important point in the NDC’s preparations for the next general election.
The campaign council is expected to play an important role in coordinating the party’s activities once the campaign season officially begins.
Dickson’s call for unity also comes amid the broader effort by opposition political groups to build a strong national platform ahead of the 2027 contest.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, is seeking the presidency for the second consecutive election after contesting the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, brings significant political influence, particularly in the North.
The NDC leadership has continued to emphasise the need for members to remain focused on the larger political objective rather than allowing internal disagreements to affect the party’s preparations.
In a related development, Dickson also hosted Obi and Kwankwaso at a high-level consultative meeting on August 6.
This comes as the NDC prepared for the commencement of its nationwide campaign activities.
Dickson said the meeting was aimed at reviewing the state of the party and preparing its leadership for the campaign period.
He also used the occasion to urge members and supporters to remain united.
“It was a pleasure to have hosted our presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi, CON, and his running mate, His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, CON, at a high-level consultative meeting to discuss the positive state of affairs of our party and to prepare for the forthcoming campaigns, which are expected to commence later this month,” Dickson said.
He added, “We call on all members, supporters and stakeholders of our great party to unite, remain steadfast and work together for victory for all candidates of our party.”
