The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, has announced the death of veteran journalist Anietie Akpan, who died at the age of 63.
According to the union, Akpan died after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity and excellence that earned him respect across the journalism profession.
In a statement issued on Tuesday the Chairman of the council, Archibong Bassey, described Akpan as one of the state’s most distinguished journalists, whose career spanned more than three decades.
The council noted that Akpan served in various capacities during his career and was widely respected for mentoring younger journalists and promoting ethical journalism.
“His demise is a monumental loss to the journalism profession and the society at large. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to truth, fairness and professionalism,” the statement read in part.
The NUJ expressed sympathy to Akpan’s family, friends, colleagues and loved ones, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for those mourning his passing.
The council said details of his burial arrangements would be announced by the family in due course.
