Baze University Partners NIM to host Leadership, Financial, Emotional Intelligence Workshop
Baze University, Abuja, in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Maitama Chapter, has hosted a capacity-building workshop aimed at equipping managers, students, and early-career professionals with practical leadership and workplace management skills.
The professional development programme, designed to bridge the gap between academic management theory and real-world executive practice, brought together university administrators, management professionals, industry leaders, and students for an intensive learning experience focused on enhancing workplace competence and professional excellence.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor of Baze University, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi, urged participants to embrace continuous learning, ethical leadership, and professional integrity as essential ingredients for sustainable career growth and organisational success.
In her keynote address, the Chairman of the NIM Maitama Chapter, Lady Appolonia Akudo Odiah, FNIM, stressed the need for greater professionalism, transparency, accountability, and excellence in service delivery across both the public and private sectors. She noted that effective leadership and sound management practices remain critical to national development. The event formally commenced with the recitation of the NIM Code of Conduct, led by Sir Dr. Raymond Ihenacho alongside Lady Odiah.
A major highlight of the programme was a series of masterclasses delivered by accomplished professionals across key areas of management and leadership.
Chairman of the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Dr. Shittu H. Shaibu, presented a paper titled “From Management Theory to Workplace Reality: What Managers Really Do,” where he examined the realities of translating classroom knowledge into effective workplace leadership and decision-making.
Director at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Mr. Babatunde Oresanya, delivered a presentation on “Financial Intelligence: Building and Planning Your Income,” offering practical insights into personal financial planning, income management, and wealth creation amid prevailing economic realities.
Speaking on workplace relationships and organisational performance, NIM Council Member, Lady Christie Eleojo Adejoh, presented a paper titled “Emotional Intelligence: Catalyst for Synergy in the Workplace,” highlighting the role of emotional competence in strengthening teamwork, improving productivity, and fostering organisational harmony.
Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Daily NewsCraft Newspapers, Dr. Obinna Nwachukwu, rounded off the technical sessions with a presentation titled “Building Professional Identity and Early Networks,” where he outlined practical strategies for developing a strong professional brand, expanding strategic networks, and positioning for career advancement.
The interactive session that followed featured contributions from the FCT Branch Chairman of NIM, Engr. Abdul-Lawal Zubair, and the immediate past National Chairperson of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Women Commission, Comrade Hafsat Shuaib, who shared practical experiences on leadership, career development, and professional growth.
The event also featured the presentation of awards and recognition to distinguished members and corporate partners for their contributions to the advancement of management practice and professional development.
In his closing remarks, the Students’ Representative of Baze University expressed appreciation to the organisers for providing a platform that exposed participants to practical knowledge beyond the classroom. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mrs. Longe Maha, who reaffirmed Baze University’s commitment to promoting impactful professional development initiatives that prepare students and professionals for leadership and global competitiveness.
