The Bauchi State Government has directed security agencies to intensify operations against illegal miners and prosecute every offender without exception statewide.
Governor Bala Mohammed declared that his administration would not tolerate illegal mining, warning that anyone found engaging in the unlawful activity would face prosecution regardless of political influence, social status or personal relationship with the government.
He stressed that no individual would receive special treatment, insisting that the rule of law must prevail in the state’s campaign against illegal mining and other criminal activities.
“No one is above the law, not even my son. If anyone connected to me is found guilty of illegal mining, the law should take its full course,” the governor said.
The governor gave the directives on Wednesday while receiving the General Officer Commanding of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Maxwell Dangana, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Bauchi.
Mohammed also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, describing peace and stability as critical requirements for development.
He urged security agencies to sustain the fight against criminal elements and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
Furthermore, the governor called for closer collaboration among security agencies operating within Bauchi and neighbouring states.
According to him, improved intelligence gathering, regular rural patrols and coordinated joint operations are essential to tackling illegal mining and banditry.
Governor Bala assured the security agencies of continued government backing through operational logistics, infrastructure and other resources needed to enhance their effectiveness.
He revealed that a Joint Task Force base being constructed in Mansur was nearing completion, adding that the government had also procured technology-driven tracking equipment to strengthen security operations.
Bala praised the Nigerian Army for its recent operations, saying the intervention had significantly improved security and restored residents’ confidence in affected communities.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser and the military high command for their swift response to recent security challenges confronting the state.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, Dangana said his visit was aimed at deepening collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the Bauchi State Government in addressing emerging security threats.
“We value the support the Bauchi State Government has continued to provide to the military, and we remain committed to sustaining operations that will further improve security across the state,” the senior military officer said.
He thanked the governor for the consistent assistance extended to the military and pledged that the Army would continue working with other security agencies to maintain peace and protect lives and property across Bauchi State.
