Troops of the Nigerian Army troops have killed one Boko Haram terrorist alongside two others during a counter-terrorism operation targeting insurgent activities in Borno State.
The Army disclosed that the arrested suspects, 15-year-old Bamusa Usman and 33-year-old Mohammed Mallum, who are now being held for further investigation, reportedly attempted to flee when troops moved against them, but were neutralised immediately.
The military indicated that both men claimed to be repentant terrorists undergoing rehabilitation at the Bulumkutu rehabilitation centre as well as disclosed that they were heading to a farm allegedly established for them by another individual believed to be linked to the terrorist network.
It added they it’s operatives recovered two rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm ammunition from the deceased suspect, as bicycle, bottles of herbicide and other items during the operation carried out on Tuesday in the Kayamla General Area of Konduga Local Government Area.
A military source who disclosed the operation said that the arrests would allow troops to investigate the suspects’ possible connections with terrorist elements and determine whether they had been involved in supporting insurgent activities.
According to the source, security conditions across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops maintained high morale and operational effectiveness.
Furthermore, he uttered that an intelligence-led operations would continue across Borno State to disrupt terrorist networks, prevent their regrouping and deny armed groups the opportunity to re-establish their presence in vulnerable communities.
The respondent added that the latest operation demonstrated the importance of sustained intelligence gathering and cooperation between troops and local security structures in tackling terrorism.
