Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has been handed a 10-match suspension for his involvement in the post-match clashes that followed his country’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee also suspended Argentina defender Nahuel Molina for seven matches following the incidents at the New York-New Jersey Stadium.

Argentina have additionally been ordered to play their next two home matches at 50% stadium capacity, although one match of the sanction has been suspended.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) was fined $321,000 (£235,000) for several breaches of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, including using a sporting event for demonstrations of a non-sporting nature, team misconduct, and discriminatory chants and gestures by supporters.
FIFA ordered that $100,000 (£73,000) of the fine be invested in an anti-discrimination programme, while another $100,000 (£73,000) was suspended subject to a probationary period.
The sanctions follow several incidents during and after Argentina’s World Cup campaign.
After Argentina defeated England 2-1 in the semi-final, several players displayed a banner claiming Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory.
FIFA subsequently appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to investigate the incidents that occurred after the final whistle, when several Argentina players and members of the coaching staff became involved in confrontations with Spain players.
Paredes and Molina were each fined $90,000 (£66,000) in addition to their suspensions.
Spain midfielder Gavi was given a one-match ban and fined $30,000 (£22,000) for his involvement in the post-match confrontation. Argentina midfielder Thiago Almada received the same sanction.
Roberto Ayala, a member of Argentina’s coaching staff, was handed a three-match suspension and fined $30,000 (£22,000).
The disciplinary measures represent FIFA’s response to the incidents surrounding the World Cup final and other conduct during the tournament.
