The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has begun its campaign for the forthcoming Local Government election to garner support for the grassroot poll.
The APC leaders carried out the awareness programme, encouraging all eligible residents for the voting exercise in all 171 wards of the 13 local governments of the area to actively participate in the franchise and vote the party to win the election, adding that the APC candidates are best suit to offer the state’s communities dividends of democracy, to ensure more developments in the areas.
The exercise began yesterday at the Ikwo area, the party targeting victory at the August 22 billed poll, disclosed on the need for increased collection of Permanent Voters Cards, PVC, as well as urging the party members to unite and support the flagearers which are tested and trusted, as opined by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Nwifuru, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Patricia Obila, enjoined all APC supporters to embark on issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the election.
Former governor, Martin Elechi, who stood as the Chairman of the occasion, held that the campaign should not be mistaken for periods of rancour and hostilities, saying, ”I urge all political actors to respect the constitutional rights of citizens to belong to any party of their choice.”
”We are not here to fight anybody,” he added, and continued, ”Nobody should intimidate or attack another because of political differences.
”I am confident that the APC will emerge victorious because of the people’s support for the present administration in this state,” the erstwhile governor further mentioned.
