The traditional ruler of Igbesi community in Kwara State, Oba Moses Iwedunmoye I, has regained his freedom five days after he was abducted by armed bandits.
The monarch, also known as the Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi land, was released by his captors after days of suffering and hardship, according to a source familiar with the development.
According to the source, the monarch was released on Thursday, and it is still unclear if any ransom or conditions were met before the bandits decided to release the traditional ruler.
Confirming the monarch’s release, the source said, “The Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi land was released today.”
Recall that The GuildNG had reported that Oba Oyinloye was kidnapped after armed men invaded Igbesi community in Oke-Onigbin town at about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Igbesi is located within Oke-Onigbin in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State and falls under the Kwara South Senatorial District.
Meanwhile, the abduction had raised concerns among residents of the community and underscored the security challenges facing parts of Kwara State, particularly communities vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Kwara State Government or security agencies on the circumstances surrounding the monarch’s release.
