A 15-year-old boy, Isah Muhammad, has drowned inside a pond after going for a swim that tragically resulted in the loss of his life, leaving his family and community devastated
Community members identified the deceased boy as Isah Muhammad, 15, a resident of Bokoto Quarters in Dutse.
Also, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) confirmed the incident, saying emergency personnel responded swiftly after receiving a distress call but were unable to save the boy despite immediate rescue efforts.
According to the agency, officers located the teenager in the water and evacuated him to a hospital, where medical personnel certified him dead.
The victim’s remains were later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
It was gathered on Wednesday that the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at Sterling Pond along Disina Road in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Speaking on the incident, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Jigawa State, ASC Badruddeen Mahmud, said the command received an emergency alert shortly after the teenager disappeared beneath the water.
“We got the call, and our team was on the ground within minutes,” Mahmud said.
“Every effort was made to save the young man, but the doctor confirmed he had already passed.”
He explained that personnel from the Takur Site Division recovered the victim from the pond before transporting him to the General Hospital in Dutse, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Following medical confirmation of the death, the teenager’s body was handed over to his relatives to enable them to perform the Islamic burial rites.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammad Ingawa, described the incident as a painful loss and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for everyone involved,” Ingawa said.
“We pray Allah grants the boy eternal rest and gives his parents and loved ones the courage to endure this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, the incident has also sparked grief among residents of Bokoto Quarters and neighbouring communities, many of whom described Sterling Pond as a familiar location where people often gather to cool off during hot weather.
