Galatasaray have reportedly identified Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez as a transfer target after receiving a positive recommendation from Victor Osimhen.
According to reports from Turkish outlet Ajansspor, the Istanbul giants are considering a move for the Nigerian defender as they prepare to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The Turkish champions are expected to be active in the transfer market, especially with defender Davinson Sánchez attracting interest from Italian club Como.
Galatasaray searching for defensive reinforcement
With uncertainty surrounding Sánchez’s future, Galatasaray have widened their search for a new central defender.
While established names such as Virgil van Dijk and Kim Min-jae have been linked with the club, Fernandez has now emerged as another option under consideration.
The 24-year-old impressed during the past campaign with Rangers, making 33 appearances in all competitions and scoring six goals.
Fernandez’s versatility attracts interest
Fernandez is regarded as a strong aerial presence and has earned praise for his defensive performances.
In addition to playing at centre-back, he is also capable of operating as a right-back, a quality believed to appeal to Galatasaray’s coaching staff.
Reports claim Osimhen has spoken positively about his Super Eagles teammate, encouraging the club’s hierarchy to consider signing him.
European clubs monitoring defender
Galatasaray could face competition for Fernandez’s signature, with Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Rennes also reportedly interested in the defender.
The coming weeks are expected to determine whether the Turkish champions will make a formal move for the Nigerian international.
