US-Iran War Live Updates: The US and Saudi Arabia carried out joint airstrikes on Iran-backed targets in Iraq overnight after Washington said Iran-aligned militias launched more than 30 drone attacks in the past 72 hours targeting US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
Hours earlier, the US Centcom said it intercepted multiple ballistic missiles fired by Iran at American bases in the region, with no reported damage or casualties.
The fresh exchange came after days of pause in Washington’s nightly strikes on Iran.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry then issued a statement, condemning drone attacks from Iran Guards targeting oil facilities in its Eastern Province and called on Iraq to prevent its territory from being used to launch such attacks.
The fresh tension pushed up crude prices; Brent crude jumped 3.4% to above $87 a barrel while West Texas Intermediate, rose 3.4% to $81.97 a barrel.
