Two commuters have tragically died, and properties damaged following an autocrash involving a motorcycle and a Lexus car in Ogun State.
The incident, termed to have happened due to reckless driving by the speeding black Lexus driver with registration number KJA 398 JR, ramming the car into a black TVS motorcycle, marked AYT 837 QU, the motorcyclist reportedly dying instantly after sustaining a severe head injury, while another victim succumbed shortly after the mishap.
The accident which occurred at about 5:45 p.m. along Olorunsogo, Leme axis of Abeokuta South Local Government as confirmed by the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, who stated that the agency deployed rescue operatives at the scene after receiving a distress call from the scene and responded within five minutes.
Odunsi stated that a total of six adult males were involved in the crash leading to the death of the adult casualties while no injury was recorded among the other persons involved.
Odunsi explained further that FRSC personnel evacuated the victims, deposited the bodies at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, and recovered personal belongings including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone.
He added that the swift response was part of the Corps’ commitment to reducing fatalities through prompt rescue operations.
Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the deceased, urging motorists to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid dangerous driving behaviours, emphasizing that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes, a reality painfully evident in Monday’s incident.
Ogunjobi reiterated the Command’s dedication to safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and rapid rescue services.
He encouraged members of the public to promptly report road traffic crashes and emergencies to the FRSC emergency toll-free line, stressing that collective vigilance remains vital in curbing the menace of road carnage.
