Troops Eliminate Scores of Terrorists in Zamfara, Target Notorious Bandit Kingpins in Major Offensive
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed scores of terrorists during a coordinated air and ground offensive in Zamfara State targeting four notorious terrorist kingpins—Najaja, Dogo Gide, Nasanda and Buba Oris.
The operation followed credible intelligence received on July 25, 2026, indicating that hundreds of armed fighters under the command of the four kingpins had assembled along the Bayarzaki Riverline in Anka Local Government Area of the state.
Acting on the intelligence, troops launched precision air and ground strikes on the terrorists’ positions, forcing them to abandon their camps and attempt to escape through the Gummi–Anka Main Supply Route.
Military sources said the fleeing terrorists were intercepted at first light by the 8 Division Strike Force in a well-coordinated ambush, inflicting heavy casualties on the criminals.
To prevent the terrorists from regrouping, troops pursued them to the Kombo High Ground in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, where another fierce gun battle ensued.
The superior firepower of the troops reportedly overwhelmed the terrorists, forcing them to retreat in disarray after suffering significant losses.
One soldier sustained injuries during the operation and was evacuated for medical treatment.
On July 26, troops returned to the area to conduct clearance operations aimed at preventing the terrorists from re-establishing their presence.
During the mop-up exercise, troops recovered 13 rounds of PKT ammunition and one machine gun round.
Military authorities said Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops have continued aggressive patrols across the affected areas as part of a sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist networks, degrade the operational capabilities of bandit leaders and restore peace and security across Nigeria’s North-West.
