Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 149 Battalion (Motorised), in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected informant for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an intelligence-led operation in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspect was apprehended in Gubio town at about 5 p.m. on July 14 as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist support networks operating in the North-East.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who confirmed the arrest on Thursday, disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed during preliminary interrogation to working as an informant for the terrorist group.
He was also said to have admitted to facilitating the infiltration attack on Gubio on June 16, 2026, during which a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force was killed.
According to the report, the suspect remains in military custody and is assisting investigators with efforts to identify other members of the terrorist network, as well as uncover additional details surrounding the June attack.
Makama noted that the arrest forms part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations under Operation HADIN KAI, which targets terrorist informants, collaborators and logistics suppliers in a bid to weaken insurgent operations across the region.
