Todd Blanche dares Senator Thom Tillis to defy Trump

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is applying pressure on retiring Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) to confirm his nomination as attorney general through evasive written responses to the senator’s questions, according to ethics expert Norman Ornstein.

“It is a real test of Tillis’s spine and moral character. He knows full well how utterly unqualified and dangerous Blanche is. If he provides the vote to confirm this monster, that will be the act that defines his public service,” Ornstein posted on social media.

Separately, congressional reporter Benjamin S. Weiss highlighted how Blanche repeatedly refused to answer questions about the $1.8 billion DOJ “weaponization fund” established as part of a settlement over leaked tax documents, claiming such discussion would be “inappropriate.”

When asked if he would move forward with the fund, Blanche declared it “dead” but refused to comment on “hypothetical communications.”

Tillis, who is leaving Congress after his term ends in January, will likely vote to confirm Blanche, Politico wrote.

“Tillis, we think, is squared away,” one source told the publication.
