The pupils and teachers rescued after spending more than 50 days in captivity have arrived at the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan following their formal handover by the Federal Government to the Oyo State Government.
The victims were abducted from Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026, before security operatives secured their freedom.
Victims arrive under tight security
A video shared by Oyo Affairs captured the rescued pupils and teachers arriving at the state secretariat in a security convoy.
The footage showed the victims stepping out of a vehicle while being escorted into the government complex by heavily armed military personnel and other security operatives.
The arrival marks another milestone after the Federal Government confirmed last week that all those abducted had been successfully rescued.
Medical care provided after release
Before Monday’s handover, the rescued pupils and teachers were receiving medical attention and psychosocial care at the Military Hospital in Ibadan.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde visited the victims at the hospital on Saturday to assess their condition and offer support following their release.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, also visited the victims during their recovery.
Families await reunion
Parents and relatives of the rescued schoolchildren have continued to express gratitude over the successful rescue operation.
Many families had earlier said they were looking forward to reuniting with their children after weeks of uncertainty.
