African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is concerned about his increasing popularity among grassroots Nigerians.
Sowore made the remarks on Thursday while addressing journalists outside the Federal High Court in Abuja after the court warned that it could close his defence if he failed to proceed with his case.
The activist is facing charges over alleged statements made about President Tinubu on his X and Facebook accounts.
Sowore links case to politics
Speaking to reporters, Sowore suggested that the legal proceedings were taking place against the backdrop of Nigeria’s political climate ahead of future elections.
He argued that his growing acceptance among ordinary Nigerians had become a source of concern for the President.
According to him, his political movement is gaining support without distributing money or gifts to voters.
‘We are offering leadership,’ Sowore says
Sowore maintained that his objective is to provide leadership capable of improving governance across the country.
He added that his vision includes reforms in key institutions, including the judiciary, which he believes should serve Nigerians more effectively.
His comments come as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
