Former Portuguese footballer, Emmanuel Evaristo, has been confirmed dead after being involved in a road accident at age 44.
Evaristo’s death was announced by Portuguese club, Benfica, where the forward played, the club expressing grief and also paying tribute to the player for his services for the side.
”Benfica receives with great sadness the news of the death of former footballer, Manu. He represented the club with pride and dedication in the 2006/07 season. We expess our sincere condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him,” the Portuguese club posted.
Fellow Portuguese club, Alverca, also posted, ”In these difficult moments, we remember his contribution with gratitude and express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Farewell, Manu,”
The player, whose death was announced yesterday, represented Benfica during 2006/07 season, as well as other Portuguese clubs in Maritimo, Alverca, Vitoria Setubal, to mention few, where he amassed 13 goals in 129 matches in his seven years in the country.
He also featured for Legia Warsaw, where he won the Polish Cup twice in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 campaign.
