Six stolen cows were found in the Maskoli area of the local government after members of the Ogun State Police Command’s Sagamu Division busted a suspected livestock theft syndicate.
The operation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said operatives also seized a blue Nissan Cabster bus believed to have served as the syndicate’s operational vehicle.
Babaseyi explained that the breakthrough followed a distress call received on Saturday, alerting police that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and made away with seven cows.
He said operatives were promptly mobilised and coordinated patrols were launched around identified exit routes.
Acting on credible information, he said, the operatives intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway, and their swift response foiled the criminal operation.
Resulting in the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, along with the operational vehicle, which was abandoned during a failed attempt to escape.
He assured that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, recover the remaining stolen cow, and ensure that everyone connected with the crime is prosecuted.
The police spokesperson also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police by reporting suspicious activities or persons.
