The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug peddlers during a patrol operation in Akure as part of its ongoing crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the command’s Anti-Cultism Squad as part of ongoing intelligence-led policing aimed at improving security across the state.
The suspects, identified as Fisayo Adedamola, Adeola Oluwaseun and Adeogun Olumide, were arrested on July 24 at about 2 p.m. during a confidence-building patrol within the Akure metropolis, the police said.
During a search, operatives recovered substances suspected to be cannabis, Tramadol capsules, Codeine syrup and Tutolin syrup. The suspects were taken into custody, while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.
Police said preliminary investigations were underway to determine the source of the drugs and identify other persons linked to the suspected drug distribution network.
Commenting on the arrests in a post on the command’s X account on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking.
“Drug abuse and trafficking remain significant drivers of violent crimes, including cult-related activities, armed robbery and other offences. The Command will continue to target individuals and syndicates involved in the illegal drug trade,” he said.
Ohagwu urged parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and provide credible information to support the police’s efforts in tackling drug-related crimes.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
