The Secretary to the Osun State Government (SSG), Teslim Igbalaye, and five other persons have been arrested over the alleged possession of voter cards suspected to have been purchased ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The arrests come barely weeks before the August 15 governorship election, as security agencies intensify efforts to prevent electoral malpractice and ensure a peaceful and credible poll in Osun State.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the operation followed a raid on the SSG’s residence, in the Oroki Estate area of Osogbo.
Items recovered from his residence include, ₦4.8 million in cash, a Dynabook laptop, photocopying machines, a printer and voter registers covering Wards One to Fifteen in Osogbo Local Government Area.
