The police have arrested four suspects over accusations of armed robbery and other law contravention acts which terrorized residents in Adamawa State.
The robbers identified as Elkana Ishaya, 17, Mubarak Abubakar, 22, Musa Umar, 30, and Kabiru Tanko, 20, all residents of Jimeta area, are in custody and under investigation for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, criminal trespass and possession of dangerous weapons following an attack that left dozens of victims dispossessed of their belonging, as imposed on them by the security agency.
The suspects were said to have committed the attack on Saturday at a lodge located within the Specialist Hospital in Yola and were apprehended yesterday during a swift action by the men of the police, as disclosed by the command’s spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, on Friday.
An investigation by the police led to the arrest of four other suspects and the recovery of four mobile phones believed to have been stolen from the victims.
Nguroje said that the suspects invaded a lodge occupied by residents while armed with dangerous weapons and carted away valuables belonging to the occupants.
“The suspects criminally trespassed into the lodge and robbed about thirty-six residents of their valuables, including mobile phones,” he said.
He added that investigators are continuing efforts to recover additional stolen items and apprehend other members of the robbery gang who remain at large.
“The investigation is ongoing to recover more stolen phones and arrest other members of the gang still at large,” Nguroje stated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Hassan, assured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
Hassan also urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious individuals and unusual movements to the nearest police station, saying community cooperation remains vital in tackling crime.
