The Delta State Police Command has arrested 22 suspected drug traffickers and rescued two minors during an intelligence-led operation targeting illicit drug dens and criminal hideouts in Ozoro and Abraka.
The operation underscores the command’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks, combat drug-related offences and protect vulnerable members of the public.
According to the police, the coordinated raid was carried out at about 3:00 p.m. on July 21, 2026, across identified drug dens and criminal hideouts in Ofagbe Community, Ozoro, Ekrejeta and the NUT Area of Abraka, following credible intelligence.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations and resulted in the arrest of 19 men and three women for alleged offences bordering on the sale, possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
“On 21st July 2026, at about 1500 hours, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, led operatives of the command on a coordinated raid of identified illicit drug dens and criminal hideouts… following credible intelligence,” Edafe said.
He disclosed that the operatives also rescued two minors from a suspected drug den allegedly operated by their father.
“The children have been taken into protective custody. They will be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for appropriate care and safeguarding,” Edafe said.
Edafe added that all 22 suspects remain in police custody and are being investigated to determine the extent of their involvement in the alleged criminal activities.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state, while urging residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
