A 45-year-old man, Michael Aduragbemi, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, for allegedly defrauding a woman of ₦3 million under the guise of securing a Kuwait work visa.
Aduragbemi was docked on charges of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.
During proceedings on Wednesday, the prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant, alongside others still at large, allegedly obtained ₦3 million from the complainant, Funke Adeyinka, between July and August 2025 in the Magbon area of Imeke, Badagry.
According to the prosecution, the defendant collected the money after promising to process a Kuwait work visa for the complainant, a representation he allegedly knew to be false. He was also accused of dishonestly converting the money to his personal use.
Ekpo told the court that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate N.A. Layeni subsequently granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ruled that one surety must be a recognised community leader, while the other must provide evidence of tax payment, bank statements covering the previous six months and proof of means.
The case was adjourned until July 22, 2026, for hearing.
