Oyo police arrests two robbers terrorising residents

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers in connection with a highway robbery along the Oyo–Iwo Expressway.

The command also recovered exhibits believed to be linked to the suspects during the operation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, saying the suspects were apprehended following a distress call received at the Police Control Room in Eleyele, Ibadan.

According to him, the report indicated that a gang of armed robbers had barricaded the Oyo–Iwo Expressway near Akoda Village in Afijio Local Government Area and was attacking motorists.

Ayanlade said intelligence-led investigations by operatives of the Vigilante Crime Response Unit (VCRU) led to the suspects’ hideouts, resulting in the arrest of Abubakar Jape and Sheu Dengi.

He added that the suspects confessed to participating in the robbery during interrogation.

An identification parade was subsequently conducted, during which victims positively identified the suspects as members of the gang that attacked and robbed them.

Ayanlade said the recovered items had been documented as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

He noted that efforts were continuing to apprehend other members of the gang, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to assist police operations across the state.
