In reducing the number of out-of-school children in Yobe state, Senator Ahmad Lawan has officially launched a fully funded intervention to return 1,178 drop outs to the classrooms.
The initiative, tagged “Second Chance: A SAIL Foundation Education Development Initiative,” was announced by the former Senate President on Sunday.
The programme targets 1,178 carefully selected beneficiaries drawn from 17 secondary schools across Nguru local government area in the Yobe North Senatorial District.
Senator Lawan stated that the comprehensive sponsorship package covers the entire duration of the beneficiaries’ secondary education.
Beyond school fees, the foundation will provide essential educational materials including school bags, textbooks, uniforms, and sandals to ensure the students are fully equipped.
“Education remains the most enduring investment we can make in our youth. I have never wavered in the conviction that no child should be left behind because of his or her circumstance,” Senator Lawan said.
To ensure a seamless academic session, the measurement and fitting exercise for school uniforms and sandals is scheduled to commence on Monday, 27 July 2026, at 8:00 a.m. prompt.
The exercise will be held at Galadima Maidunoma Mega School, Nguru local government, opposite Zangon Shanu.
The organizing committee, chaired by Comrade Bashir Sharif Tahir, SAIL coordinator for Nguru, will oversee the coordination of beneficiaries from the 17 participating schools.
Senator Lawan urged parents, guardians, and school proprietors to ensure punctual attendance for a well-organised exercise.
“Our commitment to advancing education and creating life-changing opportunities in Yobe North, Yobe state, and beyond remains resolute,” the Senator added.
