The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command, has arrested a 45-year-old suspected vandal, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and recovered items allegedly stolen from an Active Telecommunications (ATC) mast site as part of its ongoing efforts to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across the state.
The suspect was apprehended following a coordinated operation involving NSCDC personnel and vigilant youths in Omoko Community, Kogi Local Government Area, after residents alerted security operatives to suspicious movements around the telecommunications facility.
According to the command on Thursday, the incident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on July 28 at the ATC Active Mast Site, code KG 0087, in Omoko Community.
Acting on credible intelligence from residents, NSCDC operatives mounted surveillance around the facility and arrested the suspect while he was allegedly in possession of items believed to have been removed from the mast installation.
The command said preliminary investigations revealed that Mohammed confessed to his involvement in the act.
It added that efforts are underway to apprehend his alleged accomplice, identified simply as Hussein, who remains at large.
The command further stated that investigations and profiling are ongoing, after which the suspect will be arraigned in court.
Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Aletan Ebenezer, commended the people of Omoko Community for their vigilance, courage and timely information, describing their cooperation as instrumental to the successful operation.
He reiterated that security is a collective responsibility and assured residents of the Corps’ commitment to intensifying efforts to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
The Commandant also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to security agencies, stressing that timely and credible information is essential to preventing crime, protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
