The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has commenced compliance monitoring of large taxpayers under its National E-Invoicing and Electronic Fiscal System (EFS), warning companies yet to comply with the mandatory platform to do so before the July 31 deadline or face enforcement action.
The move marks the next phase of the Federal Government’s rollout of the National E-Invoicing regime, designed to improve tax administration, strengthen transparency in business transactions and enhance revenue collection through real-time electronic invoicing.
In a public notice issued by the Executive Chairman of the NRS, Zacch Adedeji, the Service reminded large taxpayers that they are required to complete onboarding, system integration, testing and the transmission of invoices to the NRS E-Invoicing platform in line with the implementation framework announced earlier this year.
The Service said it has now begun monitoring the level of compliance across the large taxpayer segment and directed all affected companies yet to complete the process to achieve full compliance on or before July 31, 2026.
According to the notice, compliance requires taxpayers to complete registration on the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), successfully integrate their systems through approved Access Point Providers (APPs) or system integrators, complete all validation and testing processes, and actively transmit invoices through the electronic platform in accordance with approved standards.
The NRS also directed large taxpayers to ensure they receive only compliant electronic invoices carrying valid Invoice Reference Numbers (IRNs) from their suppliers.
It warned that businesses that fail to complete the required onboarding and integration processes before the deadline would be subject to regulatory and enforcement measures in line with existing tax laws and regulations.
The Service urged affected taxpayers to conclude all outstanding implementation processes without delay and advised those requiring technical assistance to use its dedicated support channels.
The National E-Invoicing and Electronic Fiscal System is one of the Federal Government’s key tax reforms aimed at digitising invoice management, reducing tax evasion, improving compliance and providing greater visibility into commercial transactions.
