A yet to be identified young man in a Kogi State community has died after reportedly coming under attack at a building site in the area, leading to the police launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The community leader of the community Dangana Abubakar, has, however, urged residents to remain calm and allow investigators to carry out a thorough inquiry into the incident.
“This is a disturbing incident that has left many residents deeply concerned. We urge everyone to avoid speculation and cooperate with security agencies,” Abubakar told correspondents.
It was gathered on Friday that the incident occurred at an uncompleted building in the Albishiri community of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State, where residents reportedly discovered the victim’s body on Thursday morning.
Abubakar said locals found the deceased hanging inside the abandoned structure during the early hours of the day.
He noted that the discovery has heightened anxiety within the neighbourhood because it is not the first time a body has been recovered from an uncompleted building in the area.
“It is becoming a worrying pattern. We hope the authorities will thoroughly investigate these incidents and improve security around abandoned structures,” Abubakar said.
Also, confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said officers received a report at about 7 a.m. on Thursday and immediately commenced an investigation.
Abiodun explained that preliminary observations by investigators suggest the death may have been a case of suicide, although inquiries are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Chanchaga Local Government Social Welfare Department has been contacted for the necessary action, while further investigation continues,” the police spokesperson said.
