The Rafi local government in Niger State has declared an indefinite 12-hour curfew in its communities for as safety measures following an attack by gunmen that left four residents dead and several others severely injured.
The council held that the restriction would run daily from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m, troops have been deployed to carry out patrols and have established a strong presence across vulnerable communities to reassure residents and deter further attacks on residents in the areas.
The local government authority disclosed that activities are in place to restore peace and ensure the safety of residents at the Anguwan Gizo and Anguwan Karaya communities where the curfew has been declared to prevent retaliatory violence and restore order after the deadly assault between the Fulani and Kamuku groups in the council.
An official of the local government authority disclosed on Monday that the curfew became necessary following mishap which has put the inhabitants of the areas in fear as the assailants also set multiple houses on fire and targeted the Asmau hospital, where displaced persons had sought shelter.
The respondent added that the police and other sister agencies have also begun efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the killings.
