The Edo state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has uncovered a four-bedroom bungalow allegedly used as a warehouse for cannabis in Illushi community, Esan South-east local government area of the state.
The intelligence-led operation led to the recovery of 1,359 kilogrammes of cannabis and cannabis seeds from the residential building, which is located in an area identified by the agency as a major hub for the illicit substance.
The Edo state commander of the NDLEA, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, stated that the operation resulted in the seizure of 52 large bags of cannabis, three gallons of cannabis seeds and an additional bag containing the seeds.
He said the recovered exhibits comprised 1,273kg of cannabis and 86kg of cannabis seeds, bringing the total weight of the seizure to 1,359kg.
Ofoyeju, however, said the figures were being further reviewed as investigations continued into the operation.
He added that two suspected drug traffickers were arrested in separate operations connected with the ongoing crackdown.
The suspects were identified as 45-year-old Ojore Onweze, who was allegedly found with 60kg of cannabis, and 30-year-old George Agwumede, who was reportedly apprehended with 13kg of the illicit substance.
