A senator representing Nasarawa South District, at the House of Representatives, Ogoshi Onawo, has dumped the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Onawo announced his membership and withdrawal of services from the ADC and announced his defection to the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, citing incidents of internal challenges which has rocked the party, adding that his decision to quit the political party takes immediate effect.
During a plenary at the Senate House on Tuesday, the Deputy Speaker, Jibrin Barau, read the resignation letter, which states that the resignee took extensive consultations with his constituents in Doma local government, as well as political associates and other key stakeholders.
”It is driven by my firm belief that the prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battle it is currently embroiled in no longer offer cohesion, support and an enabling environment required for me to focus squarely on effectively representing my constituents and to fully realise the development and progressive mandate they entrusted me,” Onawo stated in the letter.
”I am grateful for the trust and cooperation I have received from my supporters and well wishers through this journey.”
Onawo’s defection comes only weeks after he left the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the ADC and was part of the nine senators who joined the latter party on March 12.
