The Nasarawa State Government has strengthened its collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to improve Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax administration and ensure compliance with the Personal Income Tax Act.
The collaboration is aimed at ensuring PAYE deductions of CBN employees who reside in Nasarawa State are remitted to the state in line with the provisions of the Personal Income Tax Act.
The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service (NSIRS), Ibrahim Adamu, disclosed this during a high-level engagement with the management of the CBN at the bank’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
Adamu said the meeting was aimed at deepening the existing partnership between NSIRS and the apex bank to facilitate the proper remittance of PAYE taxes for CBN employees residing in Nasarawa State.
He noted that while many CBN staff work in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), they reside in neighbouring Nasarawa State, making the state the lawful beneficiary of their PAYE deductions in line with the provisions of the Personal Income Tax Act.
According to him, the law requires PAYE to be remitted to the state where an employee resides rather than where the employer is located.
Adamu appealed to the CBN management to facilitate the remittance of PAYE deductions for eligible employees to Nasarawa State.
He also assured the bank of NSIRS’ readiness to collaborate with relevant departments, including verifying employees’ places of residence where necessary, to ensure a transparent and seamless implementation process.
The NSIRS delegation included the agency’s Executive Directors, Secretary to the Board, Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and other senior management staff.
The CBN Governor was represented at the meeting by the Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi, alongside the bank’s Director of Finance and Accounts and other senior officials.
Responding on behalf of the CBN Governor, Abdullahi commended the NSIRS delegation for the strategic engagement and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting lawful initiatives that strengthen tax administration and intergovernmental collaboration.
He assured the delegation that the issues raised would receive due consideration in line with the applicable legal and administrative framework.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to promote statutory compliance, improve tax administration, enhance institutional partnerships, and support sustainable economic development and revenue generation.
