The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched the Chief of the Air Staff Youth Empowerment Programme, (CASYEP), to equip children of serving, retired and deceased Air Force personnel with skills, mentorship and opportunities for a brighter future.
Inaugurating the programme in Abuja on Thursday, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described CASYEP as a landmark initiative aimed at unlocking the potential of young people in Nigerian Air Force communities through skills acquisition.
The Air Chief described CASYEP as a landmark initiative said the programme is designed as a sustainable platform to produce confident, self-reliant and purpose-driven youths while strengthening the welfare of Air Force families.
“This is a landmark initiative deliberately designed to uplift, inspire, and equip young people within our base communities with the skills and opportunities they require to thrive in an increasingly competitive world,” he said .
He said the event goes beyond the launch of a programme, adding that it represents the ignition of hope, the unlocking of latent potential, and a renewed commitment to the welfare and future of Nigerian Air Force personnel and their families.
Speaking further, the CAS said the CASYEP initiative carries a special meaning for him not because he is the Chief of the Air Staff, but as someone shaped by the very environment the programme seeks to uplift and empower.
He said, “I am a proud product of the barracks. My father, through dedication and discipline, rose to the rank of Air Warrant Officer, and I spent my formative years moving from one NAF Base to another.
“I grew up within the same system that many of these young beneficiaries call home today.
“From that experience, I understand both the strengths and the limitations of barracks life.
“While it instils discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of identity, it can also present challenges associated with frequent relocations, limited exposure and fewer opportunities for personal and professional growth.”
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour and Minister of Youth Development who was represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics
of the ministry, Anthony Chukwuka , commended the Nigerian Air Force for investing in the next generation, describing CASYEP as a strategic intervention that promotes skills development, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, leadership and innovation.
He urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity with discipline and dedication while assuring the NAF of the Ministry’s readiness to partner in expanding similar initiatives.
