Motorists have been directed to alternative routes after a series of crashes at Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway left one person dead and two others injured, causing major traffic disruption.
In a traffic advisory issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), vehicle owners have been urged to avoid the Kara Bridge/Ojodu Berger section of the expressway until the situation is brought under control.
Sequel to the crashes which occured in early hours of Friday, the FRSC disclosed that motorists travelling outward from Lagos towards Ibadan should divert through the Ikorodu–Sagamu route, while those heading into Lagos are advised to use alternative entry routes via the Lekki–Epe Expressway or the Ikorodu–Sagamu Expressway to ease congestion.
The FRSC appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to the area, noting that personnel were working with other emergency responders to clear the obstruction and restore the free flow of traffic as quickly as possible.
The Corps also urged road users to exercise caution while driving, ensure their vehicles are mechanically fit particularly their braking systems avoid excessive speeding and refrain from embarking on unnecessary night journeys to reduce the risk of road traffic crashes.
The mishap led to heavy congestion as emergency responders carried out rescue, recovery and clearance operations to remove the affected vehicles and restore traffic flow.
