Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued an Assistant Superintendent of Police and six other travellers who were abducted by kidnappers in Plateau State.
The victims — ASP Babagida Ishaku, Auwulu Haruna, Dung Jerry Dang, Anas Idris, Hussaini Mohammed, Idris Abdullahi, and Mrs Kangyang Sunday — were rescued around Sopp village in Riyom Local Government Area of the state.
The victims recounted that they boarded a vehicle in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, en route to Jos when bandits intercepted and abducted them.
According to military sources, troops of Sector 6 under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) responded swiftly to a distress call received at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026.
During the operation, the troops discovered an abandoned blue Opel Vectra with no occupants in the middle of the road. This prompted an immediate search-and-rescue mission in the surrounding bushes.
The troops later located the kidnappers and engaged them in a gunfight. Overpowered by the military personnel, the bandits fled into the bush, abandoning their captives.
The troops are currently making efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
