THE Muslim Community Centre (MCC), Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, says it has concluded plans to establish a university and transform its Qur’anic education school into a College of Quranic Sciences.
The Director of MCC, Alhaji Salihu Bala, disclosed this on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the awards and graduation ceremony of Fou’ad Lababidi Islamic Academy, Abuja.
Bala said the move was part of its efforts to expand access to quality education.
According to him, the centre reaffirms its commitment to maintaining high educational standards across its schools while pursuing the establishment of the proposed university and expanding its Qur’anic education programmes.
The MCC director said the annual awards ceremony was designed to motivate outstanding students to sustain academic excellence while encouraging others to work harder and improve their performance.
According to him, the event also reflects the centre’s vision of building a productive and peaceful Muslim society that contributes positively to national development through the provision of quality educational services to Muslims and non-Muslims.
“The ceremony provides us with an opportunity to showcase what the centre has achieved over the years and encourage more people to identify with our programmes,” he said.
The director said that since its establishment 36 years ago, MCC had grown from a vacant piece of land into an educational institution operating five schools, a functional Jumu’ah mosque and several Islamic educational programmes, producing thousands of graduates.
He, however, identified inadequate funding and limited space as the centre’s major challenges, explaining that as a non-governmental charitable organisation, it depended largely on school fees and donations to finance its operations.
Bala said the centre had continued to maximise its available resources prudently while seeking support from well-meaning members of the Muslim Ummah to address its financial and infrastructural needs.
In her remarks, the Principal of the school, Hajiya Rakiya Bamalli, said the school’s annual awards and graduation ceremony was aimed at recognising students’ academic achievements, moral excellence and discipline, while encouraging others to strive for higher standards.
She explained that recipients of the various awards were selected based on outstanding academic performance, good moral conduct and exemplary discipline throughout their stay in the school.
According to her, the academy’s consistent emphasis on sound Islamic values, discipline and quality teaching has contributed significantly to the students’ excellent performance.
The overall best student in SS3, Hauwa Muhammad, attributed her academic success to hard work, prayers and the sacrifices of her parents, particularly her mother.
Hauwa expressed delight over the recognition, describing it as a reward for years of dedication and perseverance.
She added that the sacrifices made by her parents to finance her education inspired her to remain focused on her studies and excel academically.
“I see how hard my parents work to pay my school fees, and I don’t want to let them down,” she said.
She mentioned sleepless nights spent in preparing for examinations and healthy competition among students were some of the challenges she encountered during her academic journey.
In his remarks, Amb. Bala Katsina, congratulated all the graduating students who have gotten board awards, and those who have graduated for passing through the institution.
Katsina said, “This has given you leadership and initiative. I am sure all of you will be proud to be here, to have passed through, and to have shared your experiences with your teachers and other staff and colleagues.
“So, we pray to Allah to guide and protect you in all that you aspire to be as you pass through this institution.”(NAN)
