Matawalle Commissions 20-Unit Staff Housing for DIA Personnel in Abuja
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has commissioned a 20-unit one-bedroom staff accommodation built by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Nyanya, Abuja, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The housing project, commissioned on Thursday, aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to address accommodation shortages and enhance the welfare of military personnel.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Matawalle described decent housing as a critical component of personnel welfare, stressing that quality accommodation boosts morale, operational efficiency and commitment to duty.
He noted that providing comfortable homes for officers and soldiers remains a key priority of the Federal Government.
> “Accommodation remains one of the most critical needs of our personnel. A comfortable home is not a luxury but a necessity. It provides peace of mind, enhances morale, and improves efficiency and dedication to duty,” the minister said.
Matawalle commended the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, for initiating the project, describing it as a significant achievement that reflects the agency’s commitment to improving the living conditions of its personnel.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his unwavering support to the military and his continued emphasis on personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.
The minister reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to supporting the Defence Intelligence Agency in fulfilling its mandate and strengthening national security.
He urged beneficiaries of the accommodation to ensure proper maintenance of the facility, noting that responsible use would preserve the infrastructure for future occupants.
Following the commissioning, Matawalle officially unveiled the facility by cutting the ceremonial tape and inspected the newly remodelled accommodation.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Undiandeye, thanked the minister for personally commissioning the project, describing his presence as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of DIA personnel.
He also appreciated President Tinubu for his continued support to the agency and reaffirmed the loyalty and dedication of the management and personnel of the Defence Intelligence Agency to the service of Nigeria.
The ceremony was attended by the Coordinator of the Defence Intelligence Agency Officers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Jane Undiandeye, directors of the agency, senior military and civilian personnel, Regimental Sergeant Majors, soldiers and other staff of the agency.
