A WNBA star recently held up by the Trump administration has a MAGA-friendly social media account, according to a new report.
MeidasTouch News reported that the TikTok account of Sophie Cunningham suggests support for Trump’s politics when it comes to immigration, national identity, and political expression by athletes. The Trump administration recently used Cunningham’s statements against transgender athletes playing in women’s sports to advance its own policy agenda.
Cunningham’s official TikTok account reposted a video in December by @matrixunni, a creator with MAGA social and cultural commentary, MeidasTouch News reported. In the video, the creator says that immigrants who enter the country illegally should not expect sympathy if immigration enforcement separates their families.
“Well, then, you shouldn’t have f— came here to begin with,” the creator said, while repeating that undocumented immigrants refused to “follow rules,” per MeidasTouch. The video also dismissed racism and systemic inequality, and attacked critics of the U.S. who support immigration.
In February, Cunningham shared a video that attacked Olympian Hunter Hess for distancing himself from U.S. policies. The video starts with a clip of Hess saying, “Just ‘cuz I’m wearing the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the U.S.” before cutting to a WWE clip of The Rock saying, “Shut up, b—,” followed by a montage of U.S. hockey and dialogue from the film Miracle, according to MeidasTouch.
Another TikTok reposted by Cunningham features a list with the header, “My parents were right about everything,” followed by statements like “rap is demonic,” and “Modern TV is just propaganda,” MeidasTouch reported.
MeidasTouch also noted that Cunningham follows right-wing commentators like Candace Owens and Riley Gaines.
