THE Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, on Thursday charged newly promoted senior police officers to lead with integrity, professionalism and zero tolerance for corruption.
Jimoh gave the charge during the decoration of newly promoted senior officers at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.
He said that the beneficiaries comprised four Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), five Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and one Superintendent of Police (SP), a medical practitioner promoted from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
“The promoted officers are: DCP Deborah Omoruan, DCP Mary Ayim, DCP Jaiyeoba Idowu Joseph, DCP Lot Garba Lantoh, ACP Gafar Ajayi Adeyanju, ACP Ajoke Akande, ACP Olanrewaju Victor Kalejaiye
ACP Ellah Jeffrey, ACP Chukwu Thomas
and SP Okusi Abimbola, ” he said.
The AIG described the promotions as recognition of years of dedicated service, professionalism and resilience, as well as the confidence of the Police Service Commission (PSC), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Police Force Management.
He congratulated the officers, describing their elevation as another milestone in their careers and a call to greater responsibility.
“Your promotion is a testament to your professionalism, resilience and dedication. It affirms our resolve to sustain a promotion system that rewards merit, competence and performance,” he said.
Jimoh noted that the officers were assuming higher responsibilities at a time of increasing security challenges and rising public expectations.
According to him, the promotions are not merely rewards for past achievements but a vote of confidence in the officers’ ability to provide effective leadership.
He urged them to lead with courage, fairness and integrity while maintaining zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office and other forms of misconduct.
The AIG also charged them to remain committed to safeguarding lives and property while strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by police personnel and their families, saying their commitment and resilience had earned them the promotions.
Jimoh stressed the need for the Force to continue embracing intelligence-led policing, technology and continuous professional training.
He urged the officers to align their duties with international best practices while protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens.
“We must continue to build a modern, intelligent and technology-driven police force, but we must never lose sight of why we exist to serve and protect the people,” he said.
Jimoh congratulated the officers and their families and encouraged them to continue striving for greater accomplishments.
He also urged them to confront emerging security challenges with courage and determination in the interest of public safety.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, newly promoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Deborah Omoruan pledged greater commitment, professionalism and loyalty to the Nigeria Police Force.
She noted that many deserving officers were unable to witness such a milestone due to ill health, retirement or death, adding that the beneficiaries had every reason to remain grateful.
According to her, the elevation is not only an honour but also a call to greater responsibility and improved service delivery.
Omoruan thanked God, the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission and the Police Force Management for the promotion.
She assured the IGP that the promoted officers would justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication, hard work and exemplary service.
She also appreciated AIG Jimoh, senior officers, family members, colleagues and the media for their support.
