The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed multiple plazas along the Tejuosho–Ojuelegba axis in Lagos following enforcement action against poor waste management practices.
The affected plazas were sealed after inspections revealed poor waste disposal practices and failure to comply with stipulated environmental guidelines.
The operation, which was captured in a video shared online, showed heaps of waste littering parts of the busy corridor as LAWMA officials moved in to enforce environmental regulations and caution residents and business operators on proper waste disposal.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Thursday, followed repeated warnings issued to property owners and operators over non-compliance with approved waste management standards.
During the exercise, LAWMA officials were seen engaging property managers and sealing entrances, while residents and traders watched the enforcement operation.
LAWMA Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the sealing of the plazas was necessary to send a strong message to defaulters, stressing that negligence in waste management would not be tolerated.
According to him, the crackdown forms part of LAWMA’s broader campaign to ensure compliance with Lagos State’s environmental laws, promote proper sanitation practices and protect public health.
“We cannot allow negligence in waste management to compromise the health and safety of Lagosians,” he said, adding that the authority would continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement across the state.
